Private Chrome test

Start with one useful idea.

Install SkillPiece, choose a model, and turn one passage into something you can rehearse and explain. Your first capture should take only a few minutes.

Before you begin

SkillPiece currently works only in Google Chrome on a desktop or laptop. It is available only to invited testers. Join the tester Google Group and use that same Google account in Chrome and the Chrome Web Store.

Install SkillPiece

  1. Open the private Chrome Web Store link shared in the tester group.
  2. Select Add to Chrome and confirm the installation.
  3. Open Chrome's Extensions menu and pin SkillPiece to the toolbar.
  4. Reload any article tabs that were already open.

If the listing is unavailable, check that the Store and Chrome are using the Google account that joined the group. A managed work or school device may also prevent extension installation.

Connect a model

Use your own provider

Bring your own model and API key for the most consistent experience across supported computers.

  1. Open SkillPiece from the toolbar.
  2. Add an OpenAI, Anthropic, Ollama, or OpenAI-compatible provider.
  3. Enter the exact model identifier and an API key when the provider requires one.
  4. Select Test connection, then Save and use provider when every required check passes.

Optional and hardware-dependent

Or use Chrome's built-in model

Chrome's built-in model needs no API key and processes requests on your device, but availability and performance depend heavily on your computer's storage, memory, CPU, and GPU. It is not available on every machine.

Important: The model is supplied and managed by Chrome. Enabling the flags exposes the model API, but it does not guarantee that the model will download, perform reliably, or pass SkillPiece's required capability checks. Use your own provider if any required check fails.

To enable it for this private test:

  1. Update Google Chrome to the latest version.
  2. Open chrome://flags/#prompt-api-for-gemini-nano and choose Enabled.
  3. Open chrome://flags/#optimization-guide-on-device-model and choose Enabled. If Chrome still rejects the device during testing, Enabled BypassPerfRequirement can bypass detection, but it cannot make unsupported hardware run the model reliably.
  4. Fully quit Chrome, relaunch it, return to SkillPiece, and select Test local model.

Capture your first idea

  1. Open an ordinary article and select a short passage worth remembering.
  2. Choose Capture selection.
  3. Follow Open Topic to see complete Concepts appear as they become ready.
  4. Choose Start rehearsing to review with the answer visible, or Start explaining to answer from memory.

For your first try, capture one focused passage rather than a whole page. It makes the learning loop easier to see.

SkillPiece keeps your library in this Chrome profile and brings remembered ideas back when they are ready for practice. There are no streaks and no obligation to practice every day.

Before removing the extension, clearing its data, or resetting SkillPiece, export a full backup from Settings.
